HomeGadgets for Android
Canadian price comparison on your phone.
Coming soon. The app is built (version 0.1.0) and is not on Google Play yet, so there is nothing to install from this page. We are not giving a date.
The app reads the same catalogue as this website. Search for a product or scan its barcode, and it shows the lowest price we have recorded for a new unit, the retailer, and the date we saw it.
What it does
• Search by name, brand or model number, or browse by category. • Scan a barcode. The camera reads it on your phone and only the number is sent, never the picture. You can type the number instead. • A product screen with the lowest new prices, a link to each retailer, and the lowest and highest new price we recorded over the last 30 and 90 days, as text. • Open box, refurbished and used offers in their own section, each labelled. New and open box are never blended into one number. • A watchlist of up to 25 items, and an inbox in the app that lists the price alerts for them.
About alerts
You choose when to be alerted about a watched product: any price drop, a drop to a price you set, or a new 90-day low. Alerts are recorded on our side and listed in the app. We are not promising notifications on your phone. They depend on a messaging setup that is not finished, and a build made without it lists alerts in the app and says so on its About screen.
No account, no location
There is nothing to sign in to. The app does not ask for your name, your email or your location, and it has no advertising code, no analytics kit and no crash reporter. It keeps a random identifier, made on your phone, so your watchlist can be found again. You can read it on the About screen, and that is what to quote if you ask us to delete what we hold for your install. What it sends us: that identifier, the text you type into search, a barcode number when you scan one, the products you watch, the hours you do not want alerts in together with your phone clock offset from UTC, and which retailer link you follow. In a version that can send notifications, and only if you allow them, it also sends the delivery token Google issues to the app. Like any request on the internet these reach us from your IP address, which we do not store. The app has its own privacy policy, linked below. It is the full statement of what the app keeps, sends and records, who receives it, and how to have it deleted.
What to expect
Prices are records with a date, not live quotes. A barcode only finds a product when a retailer or manufacturer publishes that barcode, so a scan will sometimes miss a product we do carry. Searching the model number works when a scan does not.
We may earn an affiliate commission when you purchase through a retailer link. This does not affect what you pay or the order in which prices are presented. Learn more.
