Price Now
A live price lookup, fetched at the moment you ask.
Price Now is not an app you can open on this website, and there is nothing to download from this page. It is a live lookup, available today through the API with an issued key. A desktop app and a local server built around it exist and are not being distributed. We are not giving a date.
Every price on this website is one we recorded, shown with the date we saw it. Price Now is the other kind of answer: it goes to the retailers at the moment you ask and comes back with what they are charging right now.
Recorded price or live price
A recorded price is instant and can be out of date. A live lookup is current and slow: it can take up to about 90 seconds, because it waits on the retailers. It also covers only the retailers that answer at that moment, so it can return fewer of them than the catalogue lists. Both are in Canadian dollars.
Through the API, with an issued key
The Live tier of the HomeGadgets Price API runs Price Now as a job: you submit a product, get a job id back at once, and poll until the result is ready. It needs a key. Keys are issued by hand to approved partners. There is no self-serve signup. To ask for one, use the contact form and say what you are building. The anonymous API, which needs no key, returns recorded prices only.
What about the MCP server
The public HomeGadgets MCP endpoint lets an AI assistant look up prices with no key. It returns recorded prices. It does not run Price Now. A version of that server which runs on your own computer and does a live lookup there exists. It is not publicly distributed and there is nothing to download.
The desktop app
We have built a Windows desktop app that searches the catalogue and runs Price Now from your own computer. It has not been released, there is no Mac or Linux version, and we are not offering a download.
Where it is not
The browser extension and the Android app show recorded prices. Neither of them runs Price Now.
